Oscars 2027 and 2028 Dates Set – Yes, We’re Already Here
Key dates, shifting timelines, and what it means for the next two Oscars
April 7, 2026 | By Lisa Hatzenbeller

It’s never too early to start spiraling about the next Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) and ABC officially announced key dates for the 99th Academy Awards. They also confirmed the ceremony date for the milestone 100th Oscars in 2028.
And yes, we’re already looking ahead.
The next two ceremonies will also quietly mark the end of an era. The 99th and 100th Oscars will be the final shows held at the Dolby Theatre and broadcast on ABC. Beginning in 2029, the ceremony moves to downtown Los Angeles’s Peacock Theater and streams on YouTube.
So… not just dates. A transition.
🗓️ The Dates That Actually Matter
The 99th Oscars will take place on March 14, 2027. Yes, they’re sticking with the mid-March timing.
I know film Twitter had a lot to say about the mid-March date, arguing it stretches awards season too long. But let’s be honest – the season only feels longer because we start predicting next year’s Oscars about a week after the current Oscars ends.
This mid-March timing is not random. The 98th Oscars were pushed later to avoid competing with both the Winter Olympics and the Los Angeles Marathon. The L.A. Marathon – scheduled for March 7 – is likely still influencing that timing.
So, while the shift is minor on paper, the conversation around when the Oscars should happen is clearly not going away.
🔮 Looking Ahead
The 100th Academy Awards will air on March 5, 2028, moving the ceremony back up by a full week.
A small adjustment, but one that suggests the Academy is still trying to find the “right” rhythm for the modern awards season.
🧠 Why This Actually Matters
Dates shape everything.
They determine:
- how long a film can build momentum
- how much early festival buzz actually matters
- how crowded the race feels
- how exhausted (or engaged) audiences are by the time winners are announced
And right now, the Academy is adjusting in real time.
